RIM’s BlackBerry Storm 9500 / 9530, which is more affectionately known ’round these parts as the Thunder, is definitely within striking distance. Still, just because you don’t have too much longer to wait doesn’t mean you aren’t anxious to get your hands on as many details as possible beforehand, right? The Boy Genius has managed to procure a few mundane stacks of PowerPoint slides that just so happen to contain some pretty scrumptious information on the touchscreen-based BlackBerry, and while there aren’t any mind-melting surprises in there (like, confirmation that it can indeed read and reply correctly to each e-mail automatically), it’s not the kind of data any real RIM fan would want to overlook. Go on and hit the read link, what exactly are you waiting for?

CrackBerry Forum user BBerry. got a little playtime with a Storm dummy tonight at VZW store and here’s what he had to say about it:

I was at the verizon store and me and my dad were talking about upcoming phones and we were talking about the touch diamond & when the verizon guy shows us this thunder dummy he had laying around so i got to mess with it and boy is it heavyy, but the back steel part feels nice and cold on your hands :] well here are some shots of the phones. Oh and that push button screen thingy yeah its not as hard actually its pretty easy to press.

More on the Blackberry Thunder… renamed the 9500

Although Verizon definitely has dibs on the touchscreen BlackBerry Storm when it launches in the US, AT&T and T-Mo customers are watching the European rollout of the GSM version to see what’s up for their future. Today BlackBerry News published a leaked spec sheet that confirms iPhone-elbowing performance: 3.2MP camera, video recording, 1GB internal memory plus MicroSD slot for up to 8GB more, and a blazing 7.2Mbps of HSDPA connectivity. In related news, PocketLint UK has all but confirmed this phone will be called the Storm like its US sibling, and not the Thunder, as had previously been reported widely. More specs and another leaked pic below.

The future of media… and end to CD’s and DVD’s

Are micro and sd cards becoming the new way to save media?  I think yes… what do you think?

SanDisk introduces SlotMusic, new music format

SlotMusicCardtmStraight190 | Office Space Toronto | Commercial Real Estate TorontoBacked by four major music labels, SanDisk on Monday announced a new physical music format dubbed “SlotMusic” that’s essentially an entire album on a MicroSD compact memory card. Wal-Mart and Best Buy are among the retailers that have already signed on to start selling the cards for the upcoming holiday season. With CD sales continuing to flounder, this latest effort to boost physical media sales is aimed at users of the millions of cell phones and MP3 players with MicroSD slots. They can insert the card right into the slot and immediately hear the music. The card will also come with a USB sleeve so it can be plugged in directly to any USB-enabled computer.

SlotMusic cards will be sold without digital rights management restrictions and in the form of MP3 files from EMI Music, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group. A joint press release from all the involved parties is scant on details about what will be released in SlotMusic format. But The Wall Street Journal (subscription required), citing people close to the record companies and retailers, says the initial release batch will be 29 albums from all four of the involved labels. Also not mentioned in the release is anything about pricing. The New York Times Saul Hansell, however, says a record label executive told him he estimates they’ll go for $7 to $10.

BlackBerry Javelin Gets Reviewed, Showered with Adoration

I just got my Blackberry Bold and I’m loving it, so it’s a little premature for me to upgrade at this point.

blackberryjavelin01 | Office Space Toronto | Commercial Real Estate TorontoThe fine addicts over at Crackberry got themselves a pre-release BlackBerry Javelin, and found it to be a worthy follow-up to the Curve, as well as having advantages even over the schmancy-pants Bold. The Javelin is not only the smallest of the three, which feels great in the hand and the pocket, but also boasts the sharpest screen at 480×360 HVGA+, for smaller and crisper icons. The camera, processor, and internal memory all get a significant bump from the Curve, making it noticeably snappier. In terms of navigation, the keyboard is very slightly more condensed, but the reviewer finds it just as easy to use. But the biggest improvement might be the smallest – a dedicated Lock button. We still don’t have an official release date or price, but the pre-release review is a happy hint that it might come out sooner rather than later. [Crackberry]
